Eden (Oriental - Dim Sum) @ KLIA

[Additional info: They charge RM6 for ground nuts given at the start of meal and RM5 for cold tower given after the meal.]

I can't remember when was the first time I saw this shop. There was once a branch in Subang Parade which has now closed down and the only remainder is the one from Penang (at Hutton Lane & Batu Ferringhi) which serves a completely different cuisine (Western) But for frequent air travelers, I'm sure they are quite familiar with this restaurant if they ever stop by KLIA. Being one of the best (and exclusive, just look at its price!!!) restaurants on the departure deck to get good quality food, this restaurant has stood its ground since the early years when KLIA was newly built!

Eden has gone through a little renovation recently to better accommodate customer with a newly built lounge. Cozy indeed. Operational hours: 6:30am to 11pm daily.

The not really "outside" seating where most customers prefer to dine. Eden is well known for their selection of Dim Sum. Rather than going through the menu, they would put a few Dim Sum samples on your table for you to choose from. The Dim Sum vary from fried and steamed variety.

Fried rice with crispy fine dried scallops. Small RM28. [Medium RM42.] Large RM56. The name is like a beautiful melody which sings to our ears. The taste? You can bet it's as nice as it sound!

Stir fried kailan with garlic. [Small RM30.] Medium RM45. Large RM60. Who knew a simple kailan dish can cost up to RM60? haha If you can look pass the price this is actually a pretty good dish, thanks to the surprisingly mashed, tender and creamy garlic which looks and taste as soft as potato! We were truly amazed by how soft the garlic were and they are just a pleasure to taste in your mouth!

Stir fried sliced tenderloin with crispy almonds. Small RM58. [Medium RM87.] Large RM116. One of the most expensive dish in the restaurant, and for a good reason too. For one, it a tenderloin cut and the other.. those are freaking almonds man!!! haha not your regular nut but it combines well with the beef and in time, you'll find yourself looking for any remaining almond to eat with its succulent beef. Truly one of a kind dish.

Baked fresh ruby prawns with creamy butter sauce. Small RM55. [Medium RM85.] Large RM110. This dish, despite the price, is just an okay dish. Everyone knows once you've tasted any butter dish from Gold Chilli, there will be none that is better XD The prawns are medium in size, and we requested them to peel of its skin for ease of eating. The butter sauce was small in quantity and it tasted quite light with not much taste. On a side note, we've also tried the "crispy" butter prawn (dry version) and it was 10x better than this.

Dishing it out: Undoubtedly the only thing that turns off the beautifully named dishes in this restaurant is its highly overrated price. But one could not expect less for the level of service and environment provided. Don't forget the fact that most shops tend to sell their products at a slightly more expensive price in airports (Airport price as they call it). This one is not excluded. Though we did not post pictures of Dim Sum in this post, let me assure you that they serve one of the best we've tasted. A few highly notable ones that we could remember are Chee Cheong Fun, Shark Fin and Shrimp Dim Sum and there were a lot more which we can't seem to recall their name.

Ria Seaview Village @ Kemayan Square Seremban

One of Seremban's few halal Chinese cuisine spots to hit back in the days. In his childhood, Mr Foodpacker and his family spend their weekends finding for good restaurants to have dinner at. Given the limited restaurants available at that time, they were lucky enough to find this restaurant at the end of an unexpected alley. Since then, the whole family kept coming back to indulge in their tasty Chinese Muslim delights.

Note: The dishes ordered from this restaurant are in terms of serving size: for 2 person= small, 3 person= medium, 4-5 person= large

Round table seatings: indoor and outdoor. They can pack more customers inside (air-conditioned) an it is preferably the better alternative as it is noisy outside due to the "active communication" between staffs at the beverage counter. They also have two types of aquariums: indoor and outdoor. The one you can choose and eat fresh fish from is outside =P. Operational hours: 10am-3pm and 5.30pm-11pm daily.

Kailan with garlic and oyster sauce. RM12 (for 4 person). Fresh veggie. When it comes to greens, their cost to quantity ratio is pretty good. Not much taste, just pure, healthy veggie.

Butter prawn (dry). RM30 (for 4 person). Their butter prawns dishes are the highlight of this restaurant. Noteably their dry butter prawns which is better than the wet butter prawns. If you're a fan of sweet egg floss, do request for extra, as they would normally come in a very small quantity.

Butter prawn (wet). RM30 (for 4 person). Coated with flour and cooked with butter. The lack of butter gravy is a big disappointment. This dish is overall dry instead of wet, though the prawns pack quite a crunch.

Venison black pepper. RM30 (for 4 person) Excelles better at taste then presentation. Well cooked and seasoned, with balanced amount of vegetables. Munchy and tender when eaten. A must order!

Three treasure jenahak fish. RM47 (price per grams) The real specialty of this shop is their fish meals. ANY fish meals. From their three treasure to nyonya to deep fried with soy sauce or even steamed, everything is fantastic!! (and yes, we've tried them all)

Since Mr Foodpacker first known this shop and up till now, it has been given frequent visits from China/Hong Kong tourists. But his family never fail to find a table during the weekends even when the place is filled with buses. So don't let the buses intimidate you =)

Dishing it out: This shop serves a quality amount of chinese cuisines. Their chefs are highly qualified with some bearing experience from working overseas (China etc). But as time flies, so did some of their chefs. Even though they have maintained the quality of their food well, but the style of cooking seem to vary over time. Eg: Their wet butter prawn was once full of gravy, soaked and tasted much better than dry butter prawn, but it is now completely a different dish.

Not only that, this shop seems to have a little problem with their serving portions. If you can see, ALL of the portions above do not match well with the number of people eating except when it comes to vegetables. This has been going on throughout the years. And it is even worst when you order for take away! Sometime you wouldn't even believe the amount of food you get compared to what you are paying for. Mr Foodpacker once ordered a meal for 6 people when actually only 4 people came by to eat (since he knows how stingy the restaurant is) but STILL it came out as if it was only meant for 3 people. Wonder how you signal "I WANT A LOT of food on my plate". Though it lacks value for money, it is definitely one of the best and few Halal chinese restaurant in Seremban that is worth a visit.

Coming back for more value: YES (for the lack of quality Chinese food in Seremban and for the fond memories created in this restaurant)

Homst @ Kota Damansara

Homst Restaurant is allerged to be one of the best Chinese Muslim restaurant in Klang area. It is located in Damansara's eating hotspot where Big Brother also resides. Who knew there are so many nice places to eat in Damansara. lol Try circling around the commercial area and you would find a variety of good franchised restaurants to have a meal at. Anyway, this post is particularly about Homst, so let's get down to business..

Not too hard to find a parking here. Operational hours: 8am- 10.30pm.

Chinese themed interior and an open air seating concept. There are many table shapes and sizes to suit the number of pax you bring. The staff was nice enough to give us the 4-seater table as we order A LOT of food during that visit. (which was during fasting month, so it is highly understandable :P)

Ribena special. RM5. Contains chunks of watermelon and lychee. We found it just a little bit sweet to our liking, but thats what additional orders of iced water are for.

Chinese fried rice. RM6. This is worth the money as there are many chunks of chicken and pieces of prawn inside. The taste is just alright.

Taufu (small). RM8. Our favourtie food condiment to go with every chinese meal. The gravy of the taufu is very good and it helps to give moisture to our fried rice.

Butter prawn (small). RM18. The prawns served are medium of size. Quite generous on the amount of egg floss but unfortunately it lacks of taste. (unlike the floss we tasted from Bamboo Garden which was filled with rich sweet taste!)

Sambal fish (kerapu). RM34 (seasonal price). The most memorable dish from this restaurant. Eventhough we asked for sambal fish, this actually tasted more like sweet and spicy. Nonetheless, very CRISPY and tasty! Highlight of our visit.

Sizzling beef (small). RM14. You would be amazed of how soft and tender the beef is. A must try for its wonderful texture. Another highlight of our visit.

Wet buttered chicken (medium). RM17. After tasting the butter chicken from Gold Chilli, nothing compares to it. This one does not come close. Somehow the gravy tasted like gulai masak lemak. The chicken were not well diced too (you can see they simply cut it in any shapes and sizes they want)

Put all those on a plate of rice and this is what you get. A masterpiece of tasteful delight.

Dishing it out: It is hard to find a good and quality Chinese Muslim food out there. Homst gives the Muslim community an opportunity to dine on the many range of chinese cooking under one roof. So be sure to give it a try! You never know if you'd fall for one of its dishes, as there are simply too many to try. :) Don't believe me? Check out their extensive menu.

Well Cook Gourmet @ SS14 Subang Jaya

Laksa is honestly one of the food we both used to hate as children, even up till now Mr.Foodpacker still do not favor it that much.. until we found this eatery in Subang Jaya that goes beyond the ordinary laksa. A fried one aka Fried Laksa!

Mind the Chinese writing, this place does not serve pork or lard. :) Operational hours: 12pm- 9pm daily.
Popiah. RM5. Tastes like the one from Sister's Popiah minus the crispy bits and add more thinly sliced fresh sengkuang.  It was once taken off from the menu, but due to popular demand the restaurant brought it back. Good appertizer before the main dish.

Fried laksa. RM 6. This is the star of the shop. For those who are not a fan of the normal laksa due to the strong fishy taste, this might be your best substitute. It contains all the main laksa condiments like torch ginger, cucumber and pineapple . The difference are the use of mint leaves instead of laksa leaves (daun kesum) and eggs are added to bring that yummy eggy taste (like char kuey teow). The noodles used are thick, springy and fresh. Taste a little bit like dry fried kuey teow, only better!

Claypot chicken Rice. RM 6. The whole dish taste rather bland. Our advise would be to add the soy sauce provided and mix it well with the chicken and rice. An average meal.

The take-away version of the fried laksa. Look at how well the noodles stick to one another? slimey and yummy. Be sure to mix the whole thing up before you eat! A perfect harmony of laska ingredients. =)

Dishing it out: The fried laksa tastes really good and we highly recommend it to everyone, you might prefer this version of the laksa instead of the soupy one! The taste won't let you down. The popiah as well is a good dish, though some may consider it pricey it is definitely worth the money.

Gold Chilli @ SS15 Subang Jaya

After living in Subang for more than 4 years, and thousands of times passing/parking across this shop, we didn't know that Subang's precious jewel (and best kept secret!) was right infront of us. It seems that this place has been famous for a few years now. Getting visitations from many local artists such as Yuna [who happen to own a fashion shop nearby called "I Am Jet Fuel"] and DJ Nas-T. They are the ones we've seen with our own eyes, while Altimet recommended this place on Foursquare and Bunkface owns a studio nearby on one of the upper lots, who knows who you might meet when you dine here.. Gold Chilli gets most of its customers from Malay and Chinese demographic.

The shop is quite easy to miss due to the very tight alley you have to go through with your car and many cars following behind. Parking is hard to find during peak hours, but you can settle for pay carpark at the MPSJ market nearby. Operational hours: 12am-12pm. Closed on Sundays.

Butter chicken. RM8. Set with rice and tea RM10.50. See the gold color in there somewhere? (you kidding?) and the chilli leaves? Hence the name Gold Chilli.

Butter chicken boneless. RM 9. Set with rice and tea RM11.50. Boneless is MUCH better as the normal chicken contains a lot of not edible and hard rock annoying bones. The butter sauce comes in generous portions every time.

Honestly the BEST BUTTER CHICKEN in the world. THE BEST! BEST! (could we be any clearer ) The creamy, sweet and milky butter sauce is one of a kind (you'll want to order extra sauce! which will cost additional RM2 =P) Unlike other butter chicken sauce this one doesn't make you feel like vommiting after consuming too much. Infact it's the direct opposite, you will crave for more.

Butter chicken boneless (Large) RM16. Not worth the money. The quantity of chicken given is not much different from the normal boneless chicken. You might as well make two orders of Normal RM9.

Assam fish. RM9. Set with rice and tea RM11.50. Besides serving butter chicken, they make other dishes such as these too. Just in case you get bored eating the same awesome thing again and again. This is Mrs Foodpacker's personal favourite! =)

Dishing it out: Don't be fooled by the apperance of this shop. For the price you are paying, it feels like you are dining in a fine cuisine restaurant. A little bit overpriced but if you really love it, 2 words.. GIVE IN. Hands down the best butter chicken you can find in Malaysia. THE BEST!
p/s: most of the friends i recommended this place to said they would definately come back again.. only after their first visit!

Blossom / XinJiang Court Chinese Muslim Restaurant @ Allson Kelana Seremban

Staying in Seremban, you can't find too many Chinese restaurants around that was also halal approved. That was certainly a major problem for me since I like eating Chinese cuisines, thus the easiest place to find for said halal chinese food was definitely in hotels.

Steamed cod fish with soy sauce. Said to be the Grand Emperor who ruled all the fish in the sea, it certainly tastes like one too. It has a soft texture, tastes fresh, very nice fragant(didn't taste or smell like the sea) and tastes better than any other fish I've ever eaten. Worthy of its throne.

Garlic butter prawns. The gravy had a nice creamy texture and the prawns were of high grade(thick) but sadly the overall dish was overpowered by the taste of the garlic. Ouch! my nose!

Vension black pepper. One of the must order dish. Perfectly balanced with vegetables, this is a joy eat. The venison is just so soft and chewy and is well seasoned with black pepper sauce.

Dishing it out: As a kid, I was always brought to this restaurant by my parents for special occassions. The reason being, one visit can cost up to RM700-RM800 for 4-5 person. One can still enjoy its overpriced butter prawn and venison black pepper but stay clear from its highly overpriced dishes such as cod fish, shark fin soup and four seasons platter just to name a few. Do try the steamed cod fish if you get the chance as it is m-a-g-n-i-f-i-c-e-n-t!

Coming back for more value: YES for cod fish and vension but the price will make me think twice

Classic Kopitiam @ Dataran Pahlawan

One of Melaka's signature dish is its chicken rice ball. Though the majority of shops which offer this dish are non-halal, we managed to finally find a Halal one. Its is from Classic Kopitiam.

See the halal sign there? FINALLY! (T_T)

Chicken rice glued together into balls. I took the small set as I was full but still eager to give it a try.

Streamed chicken.

Dishing it out: If you're a Muslim and you have not tried Melaka's chicken rice ball, give this a shot! I have yet to see another Halal spot to get them. But IMHO it tastes like how a normal chicken rice would taste like, only smaller in portion. =P

Bamboo Garden @ Summit USJ

There used to be a spooky chinese muslim restaurant that looked like a haunted ghost town in Summit. You can see its outdoor seatings if you parked at the valet area above. It served one of the best authentic chinese food as they had chefs all the way from China. My favourite dish used to be beef in spicy oil and tofu with minced meat but unfortunately a few months(3-4 months) after knowing the shop, it closed down! Dang.

But fortunately for me, i happened to discover another chinese muslim shop in summit which is the next best thing :)

Butter fish. Ask for extra crispy egg floss if you like it just like me! Love that sweet milky sensation..

Venison black pepper. A balanced meal of meat and veggies. Tender meat and tasty black pepper sauce till the last drop.

Claypot beancurd. The owner said they use homemade beancurd. Absolutely chewy!

ABC for dessert :D

Dishing it out: Good food but a little price. Around RM50-RM100 for 2 person.
