Hey guys! Please take your time and enjoy reading this blog. Please feel free to click on the pictures to enlarge. They are all of high quality. For my Muslim friends, rest assured that food shown in this blog are all Halal. Worst comes to worse, they come from shops which do not use pork or pork lard as an ingredient. That, i very well guarantee! :)

Delicious by Ms. Read @ Sunway Pyramid (EXTENDED)

We were first exposed to this restaurant at One Utama. At that time as we could recall, it was called "Ms Read's Cafe". It was not that easy to forget as it was located right beside of Ms Read's fashion boutique, but due to unknown reasons it is now named as "Delicious" (can't say that we disagree with the decision XD but it might be because the cafe is a collaboration with her son and he'd like to create his own distinctive brand)

Our first impression was, it had comfy seating, felt homely, serves good desserts and was packed with customers during the weekend. As delicious as the name suggests, this restaurant displays a lot of its tasty desserts (whichever is still available) for your eyes to feast upon, even before you are escorted to your seat. Be sure to pick the one you fancy most and order them right away to avoid others from snatching them away haha

One of many new Delicious branches which spread fast and vast throughout KL/Klang in 2011. Operational hours: 10am - 10pm daily.

Delicious is also known for its beautiful interior design. You just can't help but to feel relaxed by the ambiance created from all the unique decorations.
Different branches seem to use its different surroundings to their advantage. So far we are impressed with the decorations we saw at Mid Valley branch and the newly opened Penang branch which faces the ocean (Straits Quay) looks to be quite promising too ;)

Watermelon and lychee blast. RM9.90.

Four cheese macaroni. RM21.90. Consisting of mozzarella, guyere, parmesan and white chedar cheese. Not exactly the portion size we were expecting for the price and Mr Foodpacker was clearly shocked when he saw this being put on his table as he gave the "Is this enough? =O" expression on his face haha That was the case in a glance but once he has tasted it.. it was a completely different story! You can taste all the 4 different types of cheese in it clearly, each of its taste are well defined and it works so well for an exceptionally cheesy dish! The top part was crispy as well adding a little texture to the creamy, moist and cheesy center filling. The salad was not just for show too. It was very fresh and crispy!

Aglio olio spaghettini. RM15.90. Add shitake mushroom & sundried tomato +RM7.90. Add beef bacon +RM7.90. Add seafood +RM8.90. In this picture is with added beef bacon, thus the price is RM23.80. Despite the small portion (again) this dish was spectacular! The perfect mixture of oil and herb with a VERY generous of added beef bacon. This dish instantly turned Mrs Foodpacker into a any-pasta aglio olio fan.
Carbonara spaghettini. RM24.90. Contains oyster mushroom, beef bacon, oregano and cream. We got to admit, this is the highlight and the come-back-for dish of the shop! It is very creamy and very cheese. If you noticed, those are chunks of sliced cheese on top of the pasta! Generously spread together with a balanced amount of bacon, you won't find yourself limiting its amount of intake as it is enough to last till the last strand of spaghetti! The presentation is good as well, it is not simply thrown on the plate, instead it is rolled into the center part of the plate and results in all of the small spaghetti stands to united as one. That is how a classic plate of paste should be served and THAT is what we call culinary art. One of the best carbonara pasta we've ever tasted ;)

Nasi kerabu with ayam percik. RM23.90. Served with ulam, salted egg and keropok (there is also kerabu hidden below the keropok) This is one meal we didn't expect to find in the menu. A shop simply can't have a too diversified menu and be good at all of them. Thus the reason why this nasi kerabu was a let down. First off, the rice is not in blue and eventhough the chicken was big, it did not taste like how a real authentic ayam percik should taste like. Still, it is a filling dish for big eaters.

Sambal udang tumis. RM29.90. With achar jelatah, steamed rice and beef serunding. The prawn size is HUGE if you consider the ones you can normally find in KL. It is not too spicy and has a strong nice sambal taste. Prawn shells are peeled off so there is no hassle in eating. The prawns are really strong and pack a punch!

Masala lambshank. RM30.90. Served with nasi pilaf, cucumber raita and papadom.

Thai style steamed seabass. RM22.90. A simple dish with rice and asian greens.

Berrilicious chocolate pavlova. RM13.90. We are big fans of the Pavlova cake from Serai @ Empire, so when it comes to this one we had our expectations pretty much parred. Unlike the one from Serai that has a soft texture inside and hard texture outside, this pavlova is hard all around so we kind of prefer Serai's better. It could be due to its limited small size, but nonetheless it is still a good pavlova dessert compared to other shops!
Chocolate brownie. RM12.90.  Flooded with chocolate sauce and melted with vanilla ice cream. Very sweet. Possibly the best ice cream brownie one could find. It is as delightful to the mouth as it is a delight to the eyes. You can start drawing patterns once the chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream are mixed together haha If you are not a fan of nuts, stay away as there is A LOT of them in this one =P

Marmalade bread and butter pudding with custard sauce. RM11.90.

Flourless orange cake with vanilla ice cream. RM11.90. This was just and okay dessert. You ought to try something different.

Dishing it out: We believe that the real reason as to how Delicious is able to attract its costumer is by serving okay food with good desserts in an excellent environment. (kinda sums it up in 1 sentence haha) Perfect usage of its surrounding resources to create a one of a kind ambiance where people can meet up with ease and enjoy each others company for celebrations or gatherings or simply to eat their FANTASTIC pasta.. IMHO the carbonara n aglio olio spaghettini are enough to make you come back as a regular customer =)

William's Corner @ Kelana Jaya / Taman Mayang Petaling Jaya (EXTENDED)

Credit to Kokure Arill for the recommendation and introduction.

We first heard of this place a while back before we finally decided to give it a visit. Word-of-mouth was, "this places serves a huge platter of Nasi goreng ketam!" and "the meal looked like it was meant for 3 so I took half an hour to finish it..". Other things that were said, "it does not have a proper premise" and "it is right beside the road". Well, all we can say is that the first half is true, and the later is not so true anymore. They DO serve big portions of everything and they DO NOT locate by the side of the road anymore as they have now relocated to a new permise.

A little interesting info regarding the owner, William is of baba nyonya descent and he also has a smaller brother by the name of Murni who also happen to own a restaurant by the name of "Murni Discovery" which is quite famous too. The difference being, Murni is a franchised restaurant. From what we saw, William is a huge cat lover and a friendly person. But it takes a little while to warm up to him and his sense of humour. Haha. You can tell how passionate he is of what he does, just by looking at his meals. Also he does a massive CRM at work. Don't know what it means? Google it.

There is no signboard that carries the name of the restaurant. Your safest bet is to search for the big green chalk board. Most seatings are outdoor. The indoor is fully occupied by their kitchen. If it rains, your option is to sit below the building or under the umbrellas provided (four of them) Operational hours: 6pm- 3am.

Eventhough this restaurant applies the open air mamak system, the prices (click picture to enlarge) on these board certain are not of mamak standard. Think of it as mamak shop environment meets high class western cuisines. They do not have a menu, so if you are not clear what to order take your time and enter the shop to read the menu first.

Hattan, a local artist (singer) was spotted at the scene. A weird / magnificent thing about this shop is that when you order through William, he seems to remember every single order without writing it down even if you come with a family of 6-10 people. We saw it with our own eyes. He shouts the order to the kitchen and somehow his staffs too seem to get every single order. Talk about an experienced crew!

Beverage menu. (click picture to enlarge) Most of the highlights come from the 'Blended' section.

Soda herb. RM8. A spectacle to the eye, a wonder to the mouth. A friend of ours said "looks like an aquarium". Consists of serai, sour plum, lemon, mint leaves and lotsa lotsa lychee. Must order! Nothing like you have ever tasted before.

Ribena lychee. RM8. The name says it all. And as you expected, it is sweet. This product resembles the one from Murni! ;)

Nenas asam boi with rambutan. RM8. As complicated as it sounds, even the waiter came back and asked us to repeat what we ordered. Tastes sweet and some of the rambutans have pineapples in them! Advicable to stir before drink as the asam boi tend to clog at the bottom.

Kedondong asam boi. RM8. Sweet and sour sensation. We prefer this than the nenas asam boi as the taste was much more simple and not too complex.

Anti Pesto. Premier (Full). RM50. HUGE. We though this was an appetizer. LOL. It is overall a whole-hearty dish consisting of hotdogs, salami, pepperoni, chicken wings, sliced smoked duck, beef(2 medium ones), lamb(2 big ones), ribs(2 big ones) and finally mashed potatoes in the middle. For the quantity you are getting, it is quite worth the price! A meal like this in any western restaurants such as TGIF or Tony Romas would have easily cost up to RM80-RM100. My advice, strictly for sharing. Taste wise, everything tasted just okay individually. We prefer to have more bbq sauce on the ribs.

Meatball carbonara. RM20. HUGE. Biggest bowl of pasta we've ever eaten. The spagetthi is literally "bathed" in carbonara sauce. IMO the sauce was tastless and had a funny texture. It did not have that level of freshness in it. Might be due to fasting month busy-ness. Other than that, the meatballs are fantastic!

Nasi goreng ketam. RM25. HUGE. This dish is like a mountain of rice topped with crispy soft shell crab. Definitely a must try if you come to this restaurant. Almost everyone seem to order it. Just hope that you get a big plate so they can maximize the amount of rice for you. We were not so lucky as we came during break fast(it was during the Ramadhan month) and they were running out of the usual big plates, so they served our nasi goreng on a smaller plate instead. Smaller plate = lesser quantity. We have to say that we were quite dissapointed looking at other customers getting HUGE nasi goreng ketam and ours was just medium. =(

Gouda cheese naan. RM10. William said "kalau nak perempuan suka, kasi makan Gouda. nanti dia tergoda." NICE. haha. 2 layers of naan filled with cheese in between accompanied by butter, caramel and chocolate sauce. Both sauces are mixed with condensed milk thus giving it the thick and sticky texture.  Trust me, the naan is already good by itself, but it would taste much better if you mix it with all 3 condiments together. =D

Butter noodles with beef bacon and grilled ayam pandan. RM20. The ayam pandan is one of the best we've ever tasted. Trully delicious. Don't expect the noodles to taste like butter just because of its name, it tastes of sos kicap with a lot of spicyness towards the edge. A REALLY spicy meal due to the cili api.

Nasi mandy with harissa chicken and morrocon chicken. RM30. A dish for big eaters. Or you can share.
Basmati rice was used. Comes with 2 vegetable dishes. IMHO, the rice lacks in flavour and the fullfillness you get when eating a mandy rice. But it was fulffy enough that we enjoyed it nonetheless.

Harissa (black seasoning) = Garlic sauce. Morrocon (red seasoning) = Paprika sauce. Spicy. Both were well cooked and grilled to perfection.

Vanilla panna cotta. RM10. Served cold with chocolate caramel sauce. An awesome dessert! Somehow the taste and shape reminded us of ricotta cheese. (which was used during our experiment of baking lasagneXD)

Dishing it out: As you can see, everything is HUGE in this shop from the drinks to pasta and grilled items. It is rare that you can find a shop that has both -Quality- and -Quantity- checked in BOTH their meals and beverages. The variety/food combination also makes it more interesting. Just be careful not to overwork on the Quantity side (which you would be prone to given the serving portion) as the law of marginal utility is highly at work here. The meal taste great and of high quality, but the more you taken in the Quantity the less of Quality you seem to enjoy. Get it? We only disovered this after visiting the shop for the 2nd time and we found that the best way to enjoy William's meal, is by SHARING. =)

The service is lightning fast over here (food arrived less than 5 minutes after being ordered) which brings me to one concern, the dishes were not freshly prepared. They might have precooked them and just reheat them before serving. That would explain my slightly cold carbonara and mixed grill. Only the nasi goreng ketam was warm and it came late, indicating they were fresly cooked. Hopefully, this type of service only last during the fasting month as it is understandable to precook a large amount of food to cater the large number of guests catching time to break fast. We were also glad to find out that all of the meals were freshly prepared during non-fasting month period. Props to them.

Coming back for more value: YES this place brings so much wonder you can not help yourself to come back. Will try their Aglio olio pasta and nasi goreng risotto. Yes. Risotto.

Hawker Center @ New World Park Penang

This 'park' is actually more like a food park. Besides some shops that sell furnitures and gift.. FOOD is what is sold at majority here. The hawker center is situated to the very end of the premise. So make your way as you pass through all the expensive restaurants infront.

Fried oyster. RM5. One word, NICE. Not everything is oyster ofcourse, it is mixed with eggs.

Chee cheong fun. Aka Yam cake. RM3 for big. RM2 for small. The crispy flakes give additional crunch to the soft yam cake. Mixture of sauces gives it taste! Not bad for a change.

*Name TBA*

Dishing it out: NWP's hawker center is a place to get most of Penang's famous delicacies in one stop. Just don't expect the same taste as the real famous ones. Minus the famous and slip in the average.

Coming back for more value: YES for dessert only

Coffee Island @ Gurney Drive

Either you are walking or strolling in your car along the road of Gurney Drive, it is hard to miss this shop. One of the standouts shop at night, this shop attracts customers with bright, colourful lights and beautiful interior design.

Look like a cool hangout place. What is lacks is 'life'. Not many customers most of the time. Operational hours: 11am- 3am.

Impressive interior design is part of the reason why some would choose to dine here. Many aquariums, trees and lights hanging everywhere.

*Name TBA*

Ice blended peanut. No idea why we ordered this. =P

Chicken nissin noodle. The mickey mouse bowl reflects unprofessionalism if you as me.

Dishing it out: Rather than a place to eat, this place makes a better hangout spot. If they can get more customers to crowd up the space that is. (football broadcast etc) They also provide free wifi for customers. Selection of food is quite extensive from local to international. (chee cheong fun to chicken chops) Nothing special to come back for though.

Bora Bora by Sunset @ Batu Ferringhi

We happened to discover this new hangout place when we were window shopping through the back shops of Batu Ferringhi's night market. So happened that the day of our visit was the launching week of the cafe. Said to be the latest happening to hit Penang's night scene, this cafe is kept as lively as it can be with tunes played by DJ and stage performances. There are two parts to this shop, indoor and outdoor. We preferred sitting outside as it was facing the sea and you get to dine on the beach! The tables are moveable so you can pick a spot you like and just chill to the sea's breeze. Lazy chairs are also provided for you to hang out near the sea.

A disco ball. Cliche' but it works. Operational hours: 12.00pm- 1.00am from Sunday to Thurday. 12.00pm- 3.00am on Friday, Saturday and Eve of Public Holiday.

That is the stage where performances are done. The happening ambience outside attracts local and foreign visitors alike. Well, actually more to foreign visitors as they like these kind of dining atmosphere where you can just chill and do your thing.

A bonfire! Our very first bonfire by the beach experience I might add! Foreigners: Jumped over the fire. Locals: Paranoid that the spit fire would burn their hair.

Chicken wings. Pls don't mind the bones, we got too hungry and forgot to take a snap first. XD

Beef pepperoni pizza. One of the fondest moments of our Penang visit. This pizza is absolutely delightful! The crust below is thin and it packs a crunch when you munch. The top is filled with oozy cheese and the tomato sauce base was not overdone allowing you to fully enjoy the taste of the cheese. Simply awesome.

Dishing it out: There are many other dishes provided by Bora Bora as well ranging from pastas, pizzas, other western cuisines and also local cuisines such as nasi goreng. But more than anything you should enjoy here is the ambience and fun filled activities they provide.

Asia Cafe @ SS15 Subang Jaya

Asia Cafe, a food court oriented food gallery that is popular among locals consisting of college students, working adults, families, football freaks, pc gamers, foosball/pool players and also pirated dvd sellers! Infamously closed down by MPSJ for not meeting the minimum health requirement countless of times, this food court remains as one of the best spot in subang jaya to find a variety of food in one place.

Tropical delight. RM8.50. Honeydew, mango and dragon fruit juice. They have more 3 juices combo just like this!

Melon cooler. RM8.50. Watermelon and lychee. This drink is better than Tropical delight as it is easier to drink thanks to its lite texture. Very refreshing and breezy! Highly recommended.

Crispy chicken rice with additional chicken. One of my favourite college pastime.. remembered ordering 3 packs of this for take away just for me. I was at Obesity Level 2 at that time! LOL

Takoyaki. RM4.50. Mixtures of octopus, prawn and crab. The size of the takoyaki and its filling are small but it makes up with its quantity. Mine without wasabi please!

Grilled Chicken Fish. It does taste a little like chicken if you ask me. Best selection of fish as it doesn't have many bones.

Dragone (medium). RM17. From Pizza Brava booth. A pizza like dish, only it is wrapped with all the ingredients inside. Min waiting time 20-30 minutes. If you are in a hurry, avoid getting this. The shell is hard but once you crack it open, soft cheese starts to flow out of it. The sauce is okay but sometimes a little sour. You will need it if you can't handle the cheese. Eventhough there are limited chicken ham and mushroom inside, the excessive amount of cheese makes it an awesome dish!

Dishing it out: The fish shop located right opposite the sushi bar is one of the best seafood stalls in Asia Cafe. Certain types of fish gets Buy 1, Free 1 deals but not for chicken fish. It would normally cost around RM20 for one. Crispy chicken rice is highly in demand in Asia Cafe, the priced used to be RM4.50 until it went up to RM5.50 and parachuted to RM6.50 currently. [Update: current price RM6.90]
