If you are talking about a nasi kandar shop that has been around for quite some time, you might be reffering to Nasi Kandar Kudu bin Abdullah. Operating since back in the days, even P Ramlee visited this shop and named it one of his favourite. Their special offering which they take pride in is their Ayam sambal bawang.



If you can't stand the sun, bring an umbrella while you're at it. The sun is  f-i-e-r-c-e  in the middle of KL. Max waiting time- 30minutes! Operational hours: 7.30am-8.30pm.



If you want privacy, this is not the place to be. Most customers eat on a shared table.  For big groups, book your seating while have others order on your behalf.



They have most of the menu items one could desire from crabs, prawns, squids, big fish, and even my fish egg was there.

Some "proof" of P Ramlee's visitation and a mark of popularity among the locals. There are more on the opposite wall. You can tell this business has been around for ages.



Fish eggs, ayam sambal bawang and daging manis(ontop). Fish eggs were enormously HUGE, ayam sambal bawang was skinny and not tender, don't see anything special there. It tasted like ayam goreng berempah. The daging manis was also not tender. Overall presentation was sloppy.




Ayam goreng, ayam sambal bawang(covered in black sauce) and bumbu. Ayam goreng tasted much better and tender. Bumbu was oily.

Sirap bandung selasih. RM3. The only thing that really surprised me in this shop. A must order if you visit. Doesn't only look good, tastes good too. Those who can't take sweet drinks, do stay clear.


Dishing it out: It got me thinking that maybe this shop survived throughout the year due to its stratergic location. There are a lot of offices nearby and for those who do not want to get into the jam during lunch hours will choose to go to this shop. After tasting Fareed Line Clear Nasi Kandar, this shop has failed to impress me. Total amount was RM29.

Coming back for more value: NO but YES for sirap bandung selasih

Cleanliness: MODERATE
Service: BAD after the long queue the mamak doesn't really take his time to listen to your order. we felt like we were being rushed. Unfriendly owner, her kindest gesture was "thank you" after we paid.

Q Bean @ Queensbay Mall

Do you know the story of how green tea and yoghurt came to be famous and ruled the world? Well somebody might have forgotten another contender by the name of "Soy bean"! Here is the story of soy bean trying to make a possible comeback.

Very simple shop with not too many seatings. Product ranges from freshly made soy bean (no preservatives) ice blended drinks, soy bean ice cream, tau foo far and pancakes. Operational hours: follows shopping mall operating time.

Original soy bean with gula Melaka and original soy bean. RM2.70 and RM2.50 respectively. Pure and fresh. If you are not on a healthy diet, go for the one with gula Melaka as it tastes better.

This shop also offers a very special (but not necessarily rational) product at that time which was XXXXL ice cream. And the one you see in the bowl, is a FAILED attempt. LOL.

Soy bean ice cream cone. RM2.50. Tastes healthier than the normal milk/butter/vanilla based soft icecream. I would opt for this over the rest anytime. Very nice!

Dishing it out: A birdie told me that Q Bean has another branch in IOI Puchong. No idea which is the main one but sources say that the product offerings and the pricing are not well standardized. The Puchong branch is priced relatively lower.

Night Market @ Jonker Walk

Jonker Walk aka Jalan Hang Jebat is one of Melaka's hotspot for night life filled with foreigners, street performances, chinese karaokes, traditional shops for antiques, baju kebaya and giftsand also not forgetting food stalls. Here are some worthy mention food that we happened to pass by.

Matcha ice blended. Never miss to get one of these everytime i get there.

Teenagers normally operate this stall. Don't underestimate what they can whip up for you.

Cendol. Chinese style! A little bit out of the ordinary. It is powdered with santan and a choice of fruit to you liking. This one is mango. Tasted a bit bitter(due to the brown coloured sauce) but that is what makes it different from your boring normal cendol!

Dishing it out: Jonker Walk is not much of a place for its food attraction (Halal food at least) rather more for its shopping and drinking. But if you get hungry or thirsty along the way, these are some of our personal favourites you can try. :-)

Klebang Coconut Shake @ Pantai Klebang

When was the last time you tasted a beverage so tasty, it made you want to travel 100s of KM just to have a taste of it?!! Ours was not too long ago on a land called Klebang, Melaka.

Located on the very side of the road, passing vehicles can spot this shop by its long queues. It is near a Caltex petrol station. Max waiting time- 40minutes! Operational hours: 12.30pm- 6.30pm daily. 2pm- 6.30pm on Friday. 

Coconut shake special (with ice cream). RM2.20 for take away and RM2.00 for dine in. Coconut shake normal RM 1.80 for take away and RM1.50 for dine in. Weirdly priced, but cheap!



Up for grabs. Whoever came up with the idea of coconut shake must be given a "Datuk" title.



Pulut kuning. RM2.50. Prepacked and mainly serves as a side dish. Main dish is the coconut shake! =D

Nasi lemak. RM1.20. Prepacked and again don't expect anything special here. It just goes along nicely with the coconut shake or if you are hungry.



The ultimate definition of "refreshing". Heaven in a glass. The drink as a whole is made of high quality and fresh ingredients including Wall's vanilla ice cream. Very "lemak manis" as the locals say it. How i wish I had one right now! haha



Ofcourse, dining in is never enough. This one is for the way home. Tip: If you let the ice cream and coconut blend to melt and mix together, you will get a totally different texture and taste yet the very same refreshing effect.

Dishing it out: The only concern is their inability to cope with too many customer at one time with only one blending station to cater for dine in customer and also take away customers. The queue is only for those who'd like to take away. So if you'd like to avoid all the hassle and long minutes of standing, take a seat, dine in and chat with you friends till you order arrives. (Honestly some makcik even order 10-15 packs of shake for take away and that will definitely hold the queue) Despite the long queue, it is a great value for money and the taste will make it worth your while.

US Pizza @ Dataran Pahlawan

Being fans of pizza, we are always critical on judging every aspect on a pizza. Those aspects include the softness of the dough, taste and quantity of the pizza sauce, mixture and generosity of cheese and toppings used etc. With only 3 outlets scattered around the state of Melaka (one in Penang) it's impossible for us to miss it every single time we visit this historical city. What keeps us coming back for more is the authenticity of what real U.S pizza should be.. loaded with cheese! Good for us, the quality of the food serve is still consistent even after 3 years of coming back.

US Pizza beats most of the heavily franchised pizza brands in my POV. Operational hours: follows normal shopping mall hours.

American iced tea. Our favorite drink at the shop. This is as american as it gets. It is very light and refreshing and also helps to clean the oily and greasy after taste of eating the pizza.

And here it is, a bowl of perfection! The most delicious lasagna we ever tasted! (from any pizza franchise) It is 'very' full of cheese in between every perfectly cooked lasagna sheets and the red sauce compliments every element brilliantly. In Mrs Foodpacker's opinion, it is even better than lasagna from Italiannies (that's because Italiannies lasagna contains more white sauce than the red sauce and she prefers the red sauce.. but Mr Foodpacker likes white sauce better! hehe) Still, US Pizza's lasagna is in a class of its own.

Hot and spicy buffalo wings. They are well flavored and taste good, the drummets were a little dry, but the wings were really juicy and tender. Anyone is a fan of chicken skin?



Meat Lover. Mrs Fodpacker's favorite. The pizza has the right combination of toppings and the sauce is of the right and balanced taste. The dough of the pizza is also soft and most importantly edible!



U.S Favorite. Aka pepperoni and cheese pizza. It is what it is, only better and even more addictive. VERY generous amount of cheese and pepperoni, soft dough, tasty pizza sauce,and garlic cheesy crust makes this pizza Mr Foodpacker's all time favorite.

Chicken mushroom.  For those who prefer chicken, this is good too. Just not as good as the previous pizzas..

Dishing it out: Unlike other pizza brands, US Pizza keeps it simple and as close to the American roots as possible. Being generous on the amounts of cheese and toppings, taking it easy on the pizza sauce and a soft crust for ease of munch make this Pizza franchise a true underdog againts other pizza giants in the industry. Do give it a try if you are in Melaka or Penang and don't forget to order the lasagna!

Asia Cafe @ SS15 Subang Jaya

Asia Cafe, a food court oriented food gallery that is popular among locals consisting of college students, working adults, families, football freaks, pc gamers, foosball/pool players and also pirated dvd sellers! Infamously closed down by MPSJ for not meeting the minimum health requirement countless of times, this food court remains as one of the best spot in subang jaya to find a variety of food in one place.




Tropical delight. RM8.50. Honeydew, mango and dragon fruit juice. They have more 3 juices combo just like this!



Melon cooler. RM8.50. Watermelon and lychee. This drink is better than Tropical delight as it is easier to drink thanks to its lite texture. Very refreshing and breezy! Highly recommended.






Crispy chicken rice with additional chicken. One of my favourite college pastime.. remembered ordering 3 packs of this for take away just for me. I was at Obesity Level 2 at that time! LOL




Takoyaki. RM4.50. Mixtures of octopus, prawn and crab. The size of the takoyaki and its filling are small but it makes up with its quantity. Mine without wasabi please!




Grilled Chicken Fish. It does taste a little like chicken if you ask me. Best selection of fish as it doesn't have many bones.




Dragone (medium). RM17. From Pizza Brava booth. A pizza like dish, only it is wrapped with all the ingredients inside. Min waiting time 20-30 minutes. If you are in a hurry, avoid getting this. The shell is hard but once you crack it open, soft cheese starts to flow out of it. The sauce is okay but sometimes a little sour. You will need it if you can't handle the cheese. Eventhough there are limited chicken ham and mushroom inside, the excessive amount of cheese makes it an awesome dish!



Dishing it out: The fish shop located right opposite the sushi bar is one of the best seafood stalls in Asia Cafe. Certain types of fish gets Buy 1, Free 1 deals but not for chicken fish. It would normally cost around RM20 for one. Crispy chicken rice is highly in demand in Asia Cafe, the priced used to be RM4.50 until it went up to RM5.50 and parachuted to RM6.50 currently. [Update: current price RM6.90]

Coming back for more value: YES (for crispy chicken, chicken fish and oversized fruit juices)

Cleanliness: Underneath your tables are normally clean but kitchen? who knows
